RJS Waste Management Achieves Cyber Essentials.

This July, RJS Waste Management met the requirements to achieve Cyber Essentials certification. Here’s a look at what Cyber Essentials is and what meeting the scheme’s requirements means for our business and you — our clients.

What is Cyber Essentials?

Government-backed and industry-supported, Cyber Essentials helps organisations of all sizes and sectors prevent a range of common cyber threats.

According to gov.uk, Cyber Essentials is a set of basic technical controls organisations should have in place to protect themselves against online security threats. The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) adds that while cyber-attacks come in many guises, most are basic at the hands of amateurish cyber criminals: “They’re the digital equivalent of a thief trying your front door to see if it’s unlocked. Our advice is designed to prevent these attacks”.

When an organisation is vulnerable to basic attacks, they become a target for cybercriminals. This certification provides peace of mind that your defences will protect against the vast majority of common cyber-attacks.

Since its launch with backing from the likes of the Federation of Small Businesses and the CBI, over, 120,000 certificates have been awarded to businesses, charities, educational institutions and more.

What Cyber Essentials certification means for RJS Waste Management

There are a number of reasons why we decided to work towards and apply for Cyber Essentials certification. These include:

  • Reassuring you (our clients) that we are working to secure our IT against cyber-attacks — giving peace of mind your sensitive information is safe in our hands.
  • Attracting new business — with the promise we have cyber security measures in place.
  • Bidding for Government contracts — Cyber Essentials is required when dealing with certain sensitive and personal information or providing certain technical products and services.

As Carolyn Wigley (left), our sales advisor, says:

“RJS Waste Management is proud to add Cyber Essentials certification to our growing arsenal of quality assurance accreditations. Last year we achieved three ISO certificates — ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001. This year we have Cyber Essentials and SafeContractor to add to our tool belts!

“Not only will observing Cyber Essentials help guard us against cyber threats but it also demonstrates our commitment to cyber security for our clients and suppliers. It will help us to sure up our supply chain, improve our services and set our clients’ minds at ease with yet another reason to trust their local waste management and asbestos services specialist”.
