How Can We Assist with Your Soft Strip Building Demolition Project?

What is soft stripping?

Soft strip demolition involves the removal of non-structural elements within a building, typically in preparation for demolition, refurbishment or remodelling. The goal of soft strip works is often to leave just the structural framework or shell of the building, such as the steel frame, allowing for further construction or demolition tasks.

Items our contractors commonly remove during soft stripping include:

  • Fixtures and fittings (doors, windows, bathroom and kitchen fittings)
  • Internal walls
  • Ceilings
  • Temporary structures
  • Equipment and machinery

Safe work procedure for soft stripping

Before beginning any soft strip demolition, RJS Waste Management will carry out an internal and external survey to identify the presence of any potentially hazardous materials. Then, if required, we will carry out the safe removal of asbestos or any other hazardous waste.

Soft stripping and internal demolition work have the potential to produce high levels of dust and noise, which can have health implications. Careful planning and selection of soft strip techniques are required to ensure that dust levels are kept to a minimum. This may involve limiting the number of people in the work area, screening work areas, the use of Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE), and the use of water spray to suppress dust levels. You can read more advice from the Health and Safety Executive here.

While high noise levels are sometimes unavoidable during soft strip demolition, RJS works closely with each client to schedule the loudest tasks at times that minimise disruption.
