Waste disposal regulations
Waste disposal regulations have become increasingly stringent with the introduction of key environmental legislation. The Waste (England and Wales) Regulations 2011, developed in consultation with the Environment Agency, place greater responsibility on both waste producers and companies like ours that specialise in waste management services. These regulations emphasise the need to prevent waste and require adherence to the waste hierarchy during waste transfer.
The waste hierarchy consists of five stages, with prevention as the best outcome and waste disposal as the least desirable outcome. A key improvement would involve reducing material use during production and prioritising reuse and recycling where possible. Only after all these options have been considered should waste disposal to landfill, or incineration without energy recovery, be fulfilled.
