What is soft stripping?
Soft strip demolition involves the removal of nonstructural elements within a building, typically in preparation for demolition, refurbishment, or remodelling. Our services remove all non-structural elements, leaving the structural shell or steel framework of the building ready for the next stage of soft strip construction or demolition.
During soft strip works, our experienced contractors commonly remove:
- Fixtures and fittings (doors, windows, bathroom and kitchen fittings)
- Internal walls
- Ceilings
- Temporary structures
- Equipment and machinery
Safe work procedure for soft strip works
Before beginning any soft strip demolition, RJS Waste Management carries out an internal and external survey to identify the presence of any potentially hazardous materials. Then, if required, we will carry out the safely removal of asbestos or any other hazardous waste. Where required, we will then undertake the safe removal of asbestos and any other hazardous waste in full compliance with current regulations.
Soft strip demolition can produce high levels of dust and noise, both of which can have health risks if not properly controlled. Careful planning and selection of soft strip techniques are required to ensure that dust levels are kept to a minimum. This may involve limiting the number of people in the work area, using respiratory protective equipment (RPE), and using water spray to suppress dust levels. While high noise levels are sometimes unavoidable during soft strip demolition, RJS works closely with each client to schedule the loudest tasks at times that minimise disruption.
